1.1         Known your computer

Your Computer consists of three main modules:

§  System Unit

§  Keyboard and Mouse

§  Video Display Monitor

       The main System Unit which Contains the system board, power, supply, floppy disk  drive, hard disk, and other modules as per your order can be in any of the following cabinet models:

1.      Desktop              2. Mini-Tower

The video monitor displays the programme, data and the status of computer. Details on various controls are explained in Chapter 2.

The keyboard is an input decide for your compute. Your system is being supplied with the Windows 95/Windows/ 98 internet keyboard which has additional features over the conventional keyboard.

Before you install your system, it is necessary to create the right environment for setting up and working.

1.2 Creating  the  Right Environment

     For electrical installation one computer and       

       one printer require a stabilizer/ CVT /UPS        

       having a capacity of  atleast 500VA. The           

      electrical diagram is shown below:
      Your computer needs a separate earth havin     

      -ng earth to neutral voltage <3V. Call you          

      PCS customer reprensentative for more deta

      -ils  on site preparation.

1.     To achieve best and trouble free performance from your system, it is advisable to maintain the ambient temperature at 25°C with humidity level of 60%. You may use an air-conditioned room to achieve this.

2.     If you do not have an air-conditioned environment, place it in a well ventilated place, away from direct sun light.

3.     Do not place in a humid or dusty environment, or next to a heat source.

4.     Place your computer on a flat and level position, free from vibration.

5.     Do not place it next to the line printer or close to the airconditioner. The vibrations may damage your computer.

You should keep your system, atleast four to six inches away from the wall. This arrangement would prevent blocking of the ventilation provided at the rear of your system.

Note:- Please check the voltage Requirements (Whether 110V or 240V) before connecting.

1.3       Unpacking Your System

Your PCS computer comes to you, packed in two cartons.

·         One carton contains the Computer and other Peripherals and Accessories, and the other carton consists of  the monitor.

·         Open each carton, and take our the system components.

·         Once you have opened all the cartons, you can check for the following.

1.      Computer Software Unit.

2.      Keyboard

3.      Monitor

4.      AC Power Cord

5.      OS User’s Manual with diskettes (if ordered)

6.      User’s Guide (this manual)

7.      Mouse

             Please Note.

§  Based on your carton may contain other devices and software .

§  If you have ordered for some other add-on accessories, you will find the same in the carton.

§  If you foresee the transportation of your system in future, you should preserve the package and the package materal.

§  Based on your order, you may also get a few more cartons.

§  If the system appears damaged, notify your PCS Reprensentative right away.

1.4 Getting the System Connected

Before Connecting various modules of your compute, please read the following carefully:

v  Electronic components should be handled safely.

v  Handle them as seldom as possible.

v  Handle them only by edges or by the metal mounting panels and plastic handles.

v  Avoid touching any gold edge connectors.

v  For connecting your computer to other peripherals  like monitor, printer, you would need flat head screw driver with blade width of 4mm.

v  You would need atleast three power points of 5 Amp, each to connect your system.

v  Connect your system and room airconditioner through different writing points. The computer ground must be separate from the air-conditioning ground.

v  Always use a voltage stabilizer, to get a constant voltage of 230V +-10%.

v  It is recommended to use a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) to prevent the data from getting corrupted during power cuts.

v  Make sure that all connections are securely mode.

 Please note that the connection layout shown in the following figures may not be same for your computer. Please consult your PCS reprensentative in case of case of any discrepancy.

For you safely, always connect the equipment’s to a grounded wall outlet. Always use a power cable with properly grounded plugs, such as the on provide with this equipment.

§  Gather all the cabs of the peripherals there are to be connected to your computer.

§  Place the PC on a sturdy desk with an easily accessible power outlet, ace for keyboard, mouse, and other accessories.

§  Make your self comfortable, facing the rear Side of your computer.

§  Now, connect your system in the following sequence.

Keyboard Connection (KBD)

Use the coiled cable to connect the keywords to the system.

Check the location of the jack from the figure. Ensure that the dimple on the cable connector aligns with the port.

Monitor Connection (15 Pin Connector)

Check the orientation of pins on the monitor signal cable connector and then connect it to the computer.

Serial Connection (9 Pin Connector) COM1, COM2

You can connect your computer, by the serial connector, to the following devices:

o   Host computer        

o   Mouse

o   Laptop

o   Digital dairy

o   Terminal

o   Digitizer

o   Another personal computer

o   Any other serial device

                                  Please Note :

                                  In the 9-pin, 15-pin and 25-pin connectors, make sure that the plug                                                                         

                                  Secure with the two small screws provided on the connector. Loose

                                  Screws may lead to loose connections!

                                  PS2 Mouse (Optional)

                          Connect the PS2 Mouse (optional) to the PS2 Mouse port.

                                  Check the orientation of pins while connecting to the computer.

                                   AC Power Cord Connection

                          Check the location of AC power inlet and insert the plug in it. Ensure that    

                                   It is not loosely inserted.

                                   In order to avoid an electric shock make sure that you insert the cord

                                   First in the computer inlet and then to the wall inlet.

                                   If your SMPS  has 115/220V switch, make  sure that is set at 220V,

                                   Otherwise it may damage your system.

                                    Printer Connection(25 Pin Connector)LPT1, LPT2

                                Connect the parallel printer to the printer connector, using the printer 

                                     Cable provided with your computer.
